The Master of Arts in Education Technology program at Michigan State University, created something called "Quickfires". This is when you're given a task to accomplish that is inspired by educational technology within a certain amount of time... And it's usually not long! With time racing against you, you typically need to figure out how to use an entire app or website while accomplishing whatever task is thrown your way. Here are a few screenshots and brief explanations of my quick projects. Please note, there was a strict time limit and if I had more time, I would have done a lot more to them!
PLN VISUALIZATION
For this quickfire, we were asked to use a mind mapping website to create a visual that represents who we connect with and learn from.
HAIKU DECK INTRODUCTIONS
This was a fun one! We had to describe who we were and a few other things about us in 5 slides on a website called Haiku Deck. Personally, I love making slides like this so this one was right up my alley. Below are two example slides.
Meme Maker!
Another big hit. Here I used a website called ImgFlip to create my own meme! I could easily see this being an engaging activity at the high school and middle school level.
Learning Theories Infographic
This was a challenging one for me but... c'mon, life would be boring if it were all easy! I was asked to create an infographic that represented a learning theory. I chose Howard Gardener's Multiple Intelligences and used a website called easle.ly to create the image you see below.
Wordle Taboo
A fun twist on the actual game. We were to choose a website that could create a word cloud - I used word clouds.com. Then, we had to use words to describe a secret word while having to avoid other key words, too. Can you guess what my secret word was??
Epic Game Design Challenge
A colleague and I worked together to redesign a game called ¡Qué lástima! to build students' questioning techniques. Here I am playing it!
Thimble
Today I had the chance to be an amateur coder on a website called Thimble. I learned the very basics of coding like changing colors, the image and the font. I am by no means an expert but it was very interesting to explore that world just a little.
Copywrite Quickfire
For this quickfire, we were asked to help our instructor find images of retro technology using the website Creative Commons. This is something I would need to learn more about because, to be honest, it left me feeling a bit confused about copywriting in general. But this was a good start! Here are my images.
